Waterways Fun Day - September 14th 2024
Blessed with fine weather, the Waterways Fun Day was a roaring success, with fun and entertainment for all on and off the water all day. Guided by narrator Jonny Walker, visitors strolled the closed High Street above the waterway to browse the craft, community and food stalls, while enjoying a programme of music and magic on stage.

Devine Buskers kicked off the music, followed by Elaine Skillen, Joanna Henwood, Glenn Stevenson, Ellington Morris Dancers, Charis Anne Luke and Waltham St Lawrence Silver Band. Patrick Ashe impressed with his close up magic, after speeches by RBWM leader Cllr Simon Werner and our new MP Josh Reynolds. On the water, the Presto ‘Crazy’ Flamingo Race was followed by demos from Berkshire Scouts and Claires Court, plus model boats from Black Park. Maudsley Gardens hosted Basil’s Mobile Farm, Joysticks pedal planes and a flight simulator, while a bubble fairy, balloonist and a pair of ‘pirates’ (one very tall...!) roamed the event, posing for photos. Our work boat Yorkie took pride of place, providing free boat trips throughout the day for families, including for the Mayor Cllr Simon Bond and Consort.
